5800 Old Lagrange Rd. is a plot of land that is currently zoned as residential. It is pending sell to a local developer named Stephen Sauerbeck. The purchase is contingent upon approval to re-zone this 81 acre plot to suit his needs to build a dual screen drive-in theater complex that would accommodate 800 cars at one time. This is his initial proposal because it is also written in that based upon the success of this business he could add a third screen and an additional 400 parking spaces. This land is situated on a one lane country road where two cars can barely pass one another without one of the cars needing to pull off to the side to allow the other to pass. This is a residential area where families currently live and the road works well for limited traffic. This land is also on a watershed for the Curry's Fork Creek which is an environmentally sensitive area. Their plan is to have a 3 acre septic field near the creek! There is a busy train track that runs not 15 feet from the edge of the property and would require these 800 cars to cross over in order to get to the drive-in and from the drive-in. That many vehicles on a one lane road is a hazardous situation where cars would prohibit emergency vehicles from getting down the road if they were lined up leaving or entering the business. 800 cars lined up bumper to bumper stretches approximately 2.1 miles. There is plenty of available property for sale in the county that is already appropriately zoned for such a business. There is no need to seek a rezoning of a residential area and to disrupt the lives of the individuals who live there. The residents of this neighborhood are not against developing a drive-in inside the county they are simply against the development of a drive in theatre in a residentially zoned area. The residents of this neighborhood do not want to deal with the added traffic, air pollution, possible run off into the creek, trash along the road, dual 50 foot movie screens with lights glaring into the night. Please join us in expressing to the planning and zoning committee of Oldham County that this proposed development is not a well-thought-out plan and should not be supported by the county by signing this petition which will be presented to them at their next meeting. Thank you!
