Keep Amador County a special place to live, work and visit

Dear Amador County Planning Commissioners and Supervisors:

Please fix the county’s draft general plan. The plan should clearly define where development can occur. It should protect cultural, historical, agricultural, and natural resources. It should protect wildlife and scenic beauty. It should clearly indicate where the county will allow mining and other industries. It should explain how the county will protect air quality, avoid gridlock, meet future energy and water needs, and foster sound economic development.

As drafted, the plan will not protect what we love about Amador County – those things that make it a special place to live, work and visit. It also won’t address critical planning issues facing our county today: the proliferation of tasting room and winery events in rural areas, the spread of ugly formula retail stores like Dollar General, and the need to protect lives and property from the very real threat of wildland fire. So far, the county has rejected state fire officials’ request to fix the plan.

In addition, the plan’s lack of clarity and standards won’t provide needed incentives for investment or help landowners know what to expect if they chose to develop their properties.

We urge you to fix the county general plan so that it is clear, easy to understand, makes real commitments to our future, and protects all that we love about this special county.

Donate now to protect Amador County! Each dollar donated to Foothill Conservancy for its general plan work (up to $3,000) will be matched on a 1:1 basis by generous donors. So for every dollar you donate, $2 will go to the cause. Donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law. The Conservancy’s tax ID number is 68-0205572.
