<p>We the undersigned feel that the current dress code of the arlington central school district is not promoting a healthy atmosphere for students. The dress code should be limited to no clothing representing alcohol, drugs, violence , or any hate promoting words, or that creates an obvious danger. The dress code rules are largely sexist. We live in a culture that produces girls shirts with narrower straps than boys shirts, girls shorts that expose more leg than boys shorts and yet rather than sending the message to all students that we need to respect each other regardless of our clothing this dress code sends the message that girls should be ashamed of exposing our skin, that their bodies are a distraction in an academic atmosphere. Under no circumstances should girls be made to feel that their clothing is responsible for others bad behavior. Clothing can not provoke actions and we need to eradicate policies that contribute to attempting to excuse attacks to girls and women.</p>
