Say no to losing your right of way to the pier.
As you may be aware the Clare County Council have begun work on a new access road in the area of the pier, if this access road is complete they also intend to place bollards across the carpark, segregating the public and restricting their "right of way " to the pier. There was no consultation with the fishermen of Kilkee , Kilkee Boat House Trustee's, Kilkee Sub Aqua Club, Kayak Club, Currach Club or Kilkee Dive Centre .
This new proposed development will drive a wedge between the community
The Council claim this is just one part of an overall development plan but as of now they still have not produced anything to confirm this is the fact .
Kilkee boat house is a listed building and needs to be protect from any developments that may have a detrimental effect to the property .
Under current legislation an absolute Duty of Care is placed upon the owners and occupiers of Protected Structures to ensure that they (the buildings) are not endangered by either: undertaking inappropriate works; direct demolition; or through neglecting the building.
Surely if the owners are obliged to protect the Kilkee Boat House, the Clare County Council should also be obliged not to put the Boat House in danger.
This is a reoccurrence of the horrendous job that was done on the ‘Picturesque’ Cliff Walk when funds were made available and needed to be spent in a hurry.
The removal of the dive boards, barriers blocking the Pollack Holes and the Pier
Gates blocking Georges Head in the form of a barrier causing Tourists to turn on their heels a leave Kilkee without seeing all it has to offer.
Is the plan to put barriers on the main approach roads to Kilkee the next time there is money available and keep tourists out altogether?
