re:SETX 2A Swap!

Hello fellow Americans!!

I am creating this petition to gauge interest in what could possible become a MONTHLY or BI-MONTHLY event (depending on interest and participation). At this event individuals will be provided with a safe and friendly environment to buy, sell, or trade any items related to our 2nd Amendment as outlined in the Constitution of these United States.

WHY?: Several months ago I read a story on social media of a robbery that occurred in Beaumont, Texas. The robbery took place at a fast food restaurant where an individual who was attempting to sell a firearm to someone he met online. When he arrived at the agreed upon location, he was ambushed and robbed at gun point. The criminals took the individuals money and firearm he was there to sell.

Shortly after this robbery, a certain social media enterprise announced they would not condone the buying or selling of firearms on their website. Deleting for sale ads, blocking user accounts, or even banning them from the website entirely.

The final tipping point to provoke my idea was reading on social media how, a recent gun show was, “unimpressive”, “overpriced”, “same stuff from the same dealers”, and “expensive just to get inside”.

I find it frustrating as a law abiding citizen, who has served in the military and sworn to uphold the Constitution that I can not share my love for freedom with my fellow Americans.

WHAT?: I, along with several community leaders, are proposing an idea that would provide for a safe alternative to meeting people you negotiate with online in a random location. We want to set aside an area where individuals can buy, sell, and trade 2nd Amendment related items (Firearms, Swords, Survival and Tactical Gear, etc) in a public and safe environment!

One of the BIGGEST concerns I have when I sell a firearm is, “Can this guy/gal legally own a firearm?”, “Am I selling this pistol to a felon?”, and other questions that make me fear getting in trouble if the transaction goes bad.

The BIGGEST concern when BUYING a firearm is, “when we meet up, I know he has a gun, what is he going to do with it when I get there?” (my safety is important). Or, “I hope this gun isn’t stolen, I really don’t want to get caught with a stolen gun”.

So we propose at this event, to have representatives from our respected Law Enforcement community. Our request of law enforcement would be to check serial numbers of firearms to ensure people ARE NOT buying stolen firearms. This will not only protect the buyer, but give law enforcement the opportunity to: 1. Remove a stolen firearm from the street, 2. Inquire as to who stole the firearm and why they are attempting to sell it.

Further, we would like to have FFL (Federal Firearm License holders - Gun Dealers) on site, to provide background checks, IF the seller requires it. This will alleviate any question in the sellers mind as to the legality of the buyer. Further, if there is someone who is not legally able to purchase firearms, that attempted purchase can be thwarted and referred to on site law enforcement.

It is important to understand that this “petition” is not a grievance with the government or with law enforcement! Only to gauge interest in the Golden Triangle for such an event.

The organizers of this event have several requests of the community.

DO NOT contact the Police Departments or Sheriff’s Department demanding their participation.

DO NOT threaten or attempt to coerce this events organizers, supporters, volunteers, or associates.

DO NOT contact law enforcement if you oppose this event, the 2nd Amendment is a considered a fundamental right in the founding document of this country. We are not asking for permission to hold this event, and only seeking law enforcement involvement in attempt to stop the buy/sell/transfer of illegal firearms or legal firearms to illegal recipients, pending the support from the community.

DO NOT sign this petition if you are not of legal age, immigration status, or otherwise barred from the purchase or possession of items protected under the 2nd Amendment. Although we do appreciate your support, it is important to keep this petition as accurate as possible to count the number of people who would be able to participate.

IF you have a grievance with this event, I welcome you to contact the lead event organizer, at the undersigned.

Thank you for your support and cooperation with our requests.

SGT Jared A.
