Dear Secretary Julian Castro,

It is our request that Project ConnectHome be introduced into Oakland California's Housing Authority. Misunderstood youth can benefit from these projects. The reason why Oakland was not chosen as one of the 28 cities is unknown to me. Oakland remains near the heart of Silicon Valley and thus, is great and obvious candidate. On behalf of the community I request that the Oakland Housing Authority be considered and introduced into the pilot program immediately.

From 2011-2013 Oakland has repeatedly seen itself remain as the robbery capital of America. The poverty and crime that holds the city back is exacerbated by the lack of support and funding. When the "broken window theory" is mentioned I envision my beloved city. We need to change this and I believe you can help.

Mr. Secretary, being that you are a minority who has experienced difficult conditions in San Antonio, Texas, I surely know that you will consider Oakland. After being at your chat with Alphabet CEO Eric Schmidt I know you have the determination to help. You said that you "are trying to do the best job at HUD" and that "the best way you make sure you have a good future is to not forget about your present".

Help us in the present so that the future may bring us all, including you, a better future.

Best Regards,

-Leonides Navarro

Former Oakland Housing Authority Peace Officer
