Middle school is usually a time when kids begin to separate themselves from one another. Students begin to grow their own sense of style, trying to both fit in and stand out at the same time. Being self-conscious and often missing the confidence needed to push themselves. Students should not be forced to wear uniforms to school. Standard uniforms are unproven discouragement to student violence; are a "Bandage" to cover up the real problems found by children and teens; and they invade students' right of self-expression, denying them of their search for identity.

Every child looks different; everyone knows that. This fact is especially obvious in middle schools across North America. Students' bodies are constantly changing and students often try to wear clothing which is flattering and, or cozy. It would be humiliating to wear the same outfit as everyone else and look awful in it, and the shape or design of a uniform may not be right for every student. Uniforms also keep students from showing creativity and using their own minds in making decisions on how to dress. Self-expression is a huge part of maturing. If students cannot show who they are or find who they want to be, an important part of the school experience will be denied.
