Car window tinting laws in Iowa were enacted in 1983. Which at that time they did not have all the knowledge they currently have today regarding skin cancer & its causes. Lot's of people drive for a living and the current "tint laws" force them to work in a environment that is unhealth. The percent of visible light allowed through your car windows is called VLT: Visible Light Transmission. The percentage of light allowed through your film and glass in Iowa is very specific and different for sedan cars and SUV cars or vans. Currently iowa requires that on the Front Side windows: Must allow more than 70% of light in. Most factory car windows currently allow less then 70% VTL with no sun protection added. The front windows are the positions where the driver and passenger sit which subjects any person's in these positions of the vehicles to large amounts of UV light if in these seating positions for extended periods of time. These laws are antiquated and should be revised.

jeff.edler@legis.iowa.gov

dean.fisher@legis.iowa.gov
