<p>Six years ago, Imee came to Denmark from the Philippines to become an au pair. During this time, she met a danish man and got pregnant. She then gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, who she named Christine. Unfortunately, the father does not want to recognize Christine as his child and refuses to have any contact with her. However, the DNA test proved that he is the biological father, thus, granted Christine a danish citizenship and financial paternal support.</p><p>Just like any other child of her age, Christine, (turning 4 years old) goes to kindergarden, speaks the danish language and is growing up in a danish society, as well as having friends in a children institution in Denmark. With this regard, the mother applied for her residence permit to be able to take care of Christine, to have a fresh start integrating herself to the country and contribute to the society. She patiently waited for the result of her application until the decision was made and she received the news on March 8, 2017 that her application is rejected. Therefore, Imee has to leave Denmark and go back to the Philippines. In connection to this, Christine has to go with her mother, because Imee is the only person who is taking care of her.</p><p>Every mother wants the best for her child. Imee’s dream is for Christine to have a normal life, grow up in a better society and finish an education, which Imee herself was deprived due to her family’s social status in the Philippines. Imee only thinks about the best interests and a good future of her beloved Christine.</p><p>Does Christine, as a Danish citizen, has no right to have a brighter future in Denmark? What future awaits for Christine in the Philippines if she has to leave Denmark with her mother? How can Christine get a brighter future in a developing country, such as the Philippines, where the less fortunate are deprived of education and has a poor health care system? Is she going to be deprived of a right to be united with her mother, Imee, who takes care of her, without stripping off her right to have a brighter future, access to health care and education?</p><p>Let’s think of Christine, who is just a child, whose future and life will be very much affected of the decisions made by adults.
