<p><strong><em>Update: Consider applying for continued board certification from the National Board of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons at <a href="http://www.NBOPAS.org">www.NBOPAS.org</a> , which is a Non-Profit organization, as with <a href="http://www.NBPAS.org">www.NBPAS.org</a> </em></strong></p><p><em><strong>A PLEDGE OF NON-COMPLIANCE WITH AOA's OSTEOPATHIC CONTINUOUS CERTIFICATION (OCC) : </strong></em></p><ol><li><strong>The American Osteopathic Association (AOA) has a Continuous Certification (OCC) program which is onerous and provides little value.</strong></li><li><strong>There is no data that OCC improves patient outcomes.</strong></li><li><strong>The OCC modules and recertification board exams are irrelevant busywork that reduce physician time for patient care. </strong></li><li><strong>OCC is costly for osteopathic physicians and has become a money-making enterprise for the AOA, and their respective osteopathic board organizations.</strong></li><li><strong>There is no public demand for OCC.</strong></li><li><strong>The existing Continuing Medical Education requirements are a preferred approach to life-long learning.</strong></li><li><strong>To date, despite numerous calls for change, the AOA has not made meaningful changes to the OCC program and osteopathic board recertification exams.</strong></li></ol><p><strong>Therefore, I pledge not to participate in OCC and recertification osteopathic board exams, unless significant changes are made to the program. If I have previously enrolled in OCC, I will boycott future participation unless significant changes are made to the program.</strong></p><p> <em><strong>If you support this pledge, please send it to your colleagues and your hospital medical staff office for distribution.</strong></em></p><p><em><strong>Note: It is a fact that many who want to sign this pledge are unable to because contracts with their hospitals, third party payers etc require OCC.</strong></em></p><p> </p>
