<p>In June 2016, Lee GR Evans made some disturbing, racist comments on Twitter, specifically suggesting that there are at least 10 species of Human, and that Britain's problems lay in multiculturalism.</p><p>When confronted by other birders, Lee GR Evans deleted the "10 species" tweet and claimed it was from a parody account.</p><p>When confronted with screenshots of his tweet, he suggested his account had been hacked or tampered with.</p><p>Birdwatching Magazine, who feature Lee GR Evans as a regular contributor, were contacted in regards to this incident, and editor Matt Merritt, confirmed at the time that this situation would be looked into.</p><p>Regrettably, neither Birdwatching Magazine nor Matt Merritt have responded to requests for information in regards to any disciplinary action in the months since.</p><p>In the light of sharp spike in xenophobia and racism in Britain since the Brexit referendum, it is important that birders, birding, it's infrastructure and publications, send a clear message that racism is not welcome or tolerated in the hobby.</p><p>It is inappropriate that Birdwatching Magazine, as the best selling bird magazine in Britain, retains an individual who makes such divisive, racist comments as one of their contributors, and the undersigned request the removal of Lee GR Evans from further publications.</p>
